The Navy League of South Dakota
…proudly serves as the state chapter of the Navy League of the United States, a nonpartisan, civilian organization dedicated to advocating for America’s sea services—the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and U.S. Merchant Marine.
Founded in 2016, our council was established to strengthen South Dakota’s enduring ties to the U.S. Navy, especially in recognition of the commissioning of the USS South Dakota (SSN 790). Since then, we have brought together citizens, veterans, and community leaders who share a common purpose: to support those who serve at sea and to educate others on the vital importance of maritime strength to our nation’s security and prosperity.
Our mission is guided by four core pillars:
- Advocacy: Championing strong, ready sea services vital to America’s defense and economy.
- Support: Honoring and assisting Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel and their families.
- Youth Programs: Sponsoring the Battleship South Dakota Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps to develop future leaders.
- Education: Promoting public understanding of the importance of maritime strength and security.
Each year, the Navy League of South Dakota hosts the Annual Navy Ball, a time-honored celebration that honors service members, upholds Navy traditions, and supports our ongoing mission of advocacy, education, and community engagement.
Together, we are committed to ensuring that the spirit of the sea services remains strong in the heart of America.
Our mission:
- Advocacy
- Support
- Youth Programs
